Vaginal Yeast Infection - 1-Day-Therapy shows high efficacy
Bayer Vital presents research findings.
A Comparison: 1-Day and 3-Day Clotrimazole therapies
With the findings of a practical, comparison study, Bayer Vital has determined that the 1-Day Treatment of vaginal yeast infections is just as successful as the 3 Day Treatment, which until now was the predominant delivery form in Germany.
During a time span of one year, the efficacy, tolerability and safety of the Bayer product Gyno Canesten 1 (for one day treatment) and Gyno Canesten 3 (for three day treatment) were observed and documented.
Almost identical cure rates with fast and comfortable treatment
The success of the therapy was evaluated by gynaecologists approximately one week after the start of the treatment. The rate of healing was 81.1% for the 1-Day therapy and 77.1% for the 3-Day therapy. The symptoms had been significantly relieved in almost all of the patients
Patients who travelled alot or put a view themselves as being particularly career-minded were particularly keen to use Gyno Canesten 1. By knowing that the efficacy is almost the same in both delivery forms, doctors and Pharmacists are able to offer therapies according to the individual requirements of the patient. "We would like to increase awareness that the treatment is just as effective using the fast and comfortable 1-Day therapy", said Dr. Norbert Becker, A Medical Information Manager at Bayer Vital.
In order to improve the compliance, Dr. Becker recommends that, doctors should explain to patients that, even if the patient uses the 1-Day therapy, typical symptoms such as itchiness, increased fluorine, burning, inflammation or swelling will still take up to three days to be cured, the same as with the 3-Day therapy product form.
Excellent tolerance and safety levels
343 Gynaecologists took part in the study, and assessed a total of 2,051 Patients during treatment. In tune with the current needs of the Patients, the doctors chose between the delivery forms of vaginal tablets or vaginal cream or the combi pack Gyno Canesten, which is made up of both cream and tablets.
Both groups of patients were first offered the combi pack Gyno Canesten (containing vaginal tablet plus vaginal cream) by the doctors treating them.
In total, patients rated all delivery forms as very good or good for tolerance. The success of the 1-Day treatment was rated as very good or good by 95.4% of the patients. For the 3-Day therapy, 94.1% rated it at the same level. 98.2% of the patients in both groups rated the safety of the preparation as very good or good.
