The treatment is very easy
If you are certain that you are suffering from a yeast infection, you caneasily take care of the problem: Go to the pharmacist and ask for a modern anti-fungal treatment, e.g. Canesten®.

The active ingredient in Canesten® prevents the development and proliferation of yeast cells, which kills them. Only yeast cells are affected, while human cells remain unharmed. This is why Canesten® is also very well tolerated; transient, mild side-effects occur only rarely.

It is important for you to eliminate the cause of the yeast infection and at the same time be freed quickly of its accompanying unpleasant symptoms such as itchiness and burning. For this reason, Bayer offers the anti-fungal product Canesten® as a vaginal cream and a vaginal tablet (pessary). The vaginal cream or tablet is inserted into the vagina with a special applicator, where it eliminates the infection at its source. You can augment treatment of the burning sensation and itchiness at the vaginal entrance by applying Canesten® cream.

By the way, women confirmed in a recent comparative study by Bayer that Canesten's applicator was fully in tune with their preferences and requests in terms of its design and function. So you don't need to worryabout using it.

Canesten® is prescription-free as a 1-, 3-, or 6-day therapy. Regardlessof what course of therapy you choose, it is important to remember thatsymptoms will improve after about 3 days.

Does my partner also have to be treated?
Vaginal yeast infections are not venereal diseases since they are not normally transmitted through sexual intercourse. Nevertheless, it is possible for you to be reinfected by your partner.

When the infection goes back and forth for a while, this is referred to as a ping-pong effect. In the instance of a corresponding complex of symptoms, treating the partner is advisable. You do not, however, have to abstain from sex during the treatment.

What if I am pregnant?
If you are hit by a yeast infection during pregnancy, you should definitely consult your doctor, to be sure that the infection is treated properly. There is evidence that the slightly increased risk of premature birth caused by yeast infections can be reduced by using an anti-fungal product such as Canesten®.

For the most part, you can avoid yeast infections
Several things can make life harder for yeast infections:

Do not wear underwear made of synthetic fibers, because they create awarm stagnant environment where yeast prospers.

Perfumed soaps and bath additives can attack the protective acid mantle of the skin which then becomes more susceptible to yeast infections. Sprays and deodorized panty liners and sanitary pads should also be avoided for the same reason.

In most cases, it is not too little but too much hygiene that is responsible for a yeast infection, because frequent washing and bathing disturbs the natural defensive mechanisms in the skin.

After using the toilet, you should wipe backwards from the vagina towards the anus, so that you do not transfer any intestinal pathogens to the vagina.

Eat health-consciously and avoid too many carbohydrates, e.g. in the form of sugar, chocolate, or cake, since yeast fungi like it sweet.

In order to decrease the chance of repeated infection as much as possible, you should wash your clothes with an anti-fungal product, e.g. Canesten® hygiene laundry rinse, which is effective even in cold water washes.
